Stones

There are stones on my desk - from different places, round and square, light and heavy. I like to use them as weights for my documents, which would otherwise be easily tossed about by any gust of wind.

I associate these stones with memories of mountains, the sea, special places or encounters. I like to touch them and hold them in my hand for a moment.

The weight, the hardness, the corners and curves - I feel the stone slowly absorbing the warmth of my hand, giving me its coolness. I feel it. I feel myself.

A stone that was rejected has become a cornerstone, they say. The stones on my desk are not cornerstones - they are stones of offence (of reflections) to paths I have already walked. Paths of sadness and despair, of loneliness and helplessness, of comfort and relief, of the happiness of hope, of trust and the love of life - stones from the path of my life.

When I take a stone in my hand and hold it, memories rise. Memories of a field full of stones, a sunset by the sea, a hike, a retreat. My stones also give me support with their firmness and with their age. I can squeeze stones tightly - they hold me up.

I would like to encourage you to look for stones that speak to you. Perhaps they are stones that you have had at home for a long time - or that you will only find on the next hike, the next path.
If you like, place a stone with a prayer or a request on the cross, very close to HIM. Maybe you also want to keep it, be very close to Him and keep it - for example on your desk.
