"If it does you good, then come!"
(St. Francis of Assisi)
Today is Mother's Day.
On this day it is still important to think of one's mother and to thank her.
For all the warmth and security she has given us.
For her care and efforts to make us a happy person.
For her unconditional acceptance of our person.
Happy who could experience all this from their mother.
But unfortunately the reality is also different.
Not every mother is able to live motherhood in this ideal form.
There are many reasons for this, which are rooted in the experiences with one's own mother.
Maternal behaviour can heal, but it can also wound.
There are signs of this "mother wound".
The feeling of never having had the real acceptance of the mother.
The fear of losing her through a mistake.
The claim of having to care for the mother.
Self-esteem and self-worth can be so difficult to develop.
Perfection and control can become inner compulsions.
The inner child feels unloved and not valued.
Experiencing and accepting this pain is important.
As a prerequisite to detach from the past,
to affirm and love oneself in the present.
and to begin the process of forgiveness.
How good that our God is also a motherly God.
So we can go to her and show her our mother wound.
Through her mercy we experience
closeness and acceptance, security and home.
This can help us to become self-responsible and free people.
God, you our father,
God, you our mother.
Our longing for love and recognition is great.
Let us meet people with whom we feel accepted and understood.
Let us find ourselves and take responsibility for our lives.
Strengthen our motherly abilities in us.
Give us respect and gratitude for our mother,
who gave us life.
Amen.
