A festive start to the New Year

The new year in our region of Peru began with two celebrations: on January 6, 2020 Sr. Diana Oré and Sr. Lidvina Ramirez celebrated their 25th anniversary of profession. Only one day later the second celebration followed: first profession of our novice Sr. Karina.

It is a quarter of a century since Sr. Diana Oré and Sr. Lidvina Ramirez joined our community in Lima. The two Peruvian sisters renewed their promise in a solemn mass joined by the other sisters. With a song of blessing they congratulated the music loving jubilarians. Afterwards, a delicious Peruvian menu and cake were served in the beautifully decorated hall . The obligatory group photo was taken in front of the chapel of our retreat house in Cieneguilla.

In this chapel, Sister Karina made her first profession the following day. In Peru, the Sisters receive the religious habit and the black veil to mark this important step in our religious formation. This was presented to Sr. Karina by the Regional Superior, Sr. Fanny Terán, together with the Book of the Rule and Constitutions of the Congregation. After a short break to get changed, the newly clothed Sister entered the chapel again and made her profession into hands of Sr. Fanny to base her life on the Gospel of Jesus Christ, to live in chastity, poverty and obedience according to the Rule of the Third Regulated Order of St. Francis and the Constitutions of the Franciscan Sisters. This was a touching moment for all, especially with the celebration on the previous day for the two sisters making this promise 25 years ago. A large number of sisters came together for this occasion, and here, too, the sisters had lovingly decorated the hall for the young Sister.
